Upcoming Affordable Maruti Suzuki Compact MPV

According to a recent internet report, Maruti Suzuki is in the process of developing a new compact MPV for the Indian market, codenamed YDB. The largest car producer in the country has been expanding its UV portfolio, making it the most sold SUV manufacturer in India in the current fiscal year. The upcoming YDB MPV, based on the Suzuki Spacia from Japan, will feature a unique design and larger dimensions compared to its Japanese counterpart.

Scheduled to stay below the four-meter category for tax relaxations, the YDB MPV aims to position itself below the popular Ertiga in Maruti Suzuki's lineup. While maintaining the boxy proportions of the Spacia, the YDB may opt for traditional rear doors instead of sliding doors to reduce production costs. It is expected to be offered through Nexa premium outlets, alongside the XL6.

With a focus on practicality, the YDB MPV is likely to have a more spacious interior than the Spacia and could compete with models like the Renault Triber. For performance, it might feature the 1.2L Z series three-cylinder mild-hybrid petrol engine, debuting in the upcoming Swift, paired with manual and automatic transmission options. The features are expected to draw inspiration from the fourth-generation Swift and the upcoming micro SUV from Maruti Suzuki.
