Next-gen Maruti Suzuki Baleno: Hybrid, 35+ kmpl mileage.

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the next-generation Baleno in 2026 marking one of its five upcoming hybrid models. The popular hatchback based on the Heartect platform has gained significant popularity since its debut in 2015. The new Baleno will feature an in-house-developed hybrid system named HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) with a petrol engine acting as a range extender.

Unlike traditional strong hybrid models the petrol engine in the HEV system won't directly propel the vehicle but will generate electricity to power the electric motor driving the wheels. This technology is reminiscent of Nissan's e-Power system offering a simpler mechanism resulting in lower maintenance and production costs.

Maruti Suzuki's foray into hybridized mass-market vehicles aims for competitive pricing with plans to introduce the HEV system in the Fronx facelift in 2025. The next-gen Baleno codenamed YTA is scheduled for 2026 featuring a 1.2L Z series petrol engine. The company anticipates an annual production of 60 000 units for this hybrid hatchback.
