New Details Revealed for the Upcoming Maruti WagonR EV

Maruti is set to embark on its electric vehicle (EV) journey in India with the introduction of the eVX SUV later this year. Following this, the company has outlined plans to unveil a series of new EVs, including an electric hatchback that may adopt the familiar WagonR EV moniker.

Although Maruti had previously developed a WagonR EV in 2018, the project was abandoned due to cost constraints. Presently, reports suggest that Maruti aims to launch an affordable EV built on a new electric platform. This potential new model could draw inspiration from the eWX concept showcased by Suzuki at the Tokyo Motor Show. The anticipated launch for the EV hatchback is slated for mid-2026.

The eWX concept, revealed at the Tokyo Motor Show last year, features a boxy design reminiscent of the WagonR. While the original design showcased a closed-off grille with connecting C-shaped DRLs, the Indian version is expected to undergo modifications for greater acceptance. The interior design, resembling the Comet EV, follows a minimalistic approach.

Details regarding the battery and motor specifications of the eWX remain undisclosed by Maruti. Considering the emphasis on affordability for the WagonR EV, expectations lean towards modest battery figures that could provide a practical range of around 200 km. The propulsion of the WagonR EV might involve a motor with an output ranging from 60 to 70bhp. It's important to note that these details are preliminary speculations, and the production-spec WagonR EV may feature different specifications.
