Zirakpur-Chandigarh stretch congested during peak hours.

Frequent and prolonged traffic congestion between the old airport light point and Tribune Chowk has become a daily challenge for residents of Zirakpur and Dera Bassi commuting to the city for work. During both morning and evening hours, long lines of vehicles can be seen on this stretch.

Zirakpur resident Manpreet Singh expressed his frustration, stating, "We are greeted with long traffic jams as soon as we enter Chandigarh every morning. The situation is no different when we leave the city in the evening. With authorities yet to provide a solution, commuting to the city has become a difficult task for people living in the surrounding areas.

Another resident of Zirakpur, Jasmer, who commutes daily, echoed similar concerns about the growing traffic congestion on the stretch. "While long traffic jams are a common occurrence in Zirakpur, the situation in Chandigarh is worsening, he remarked.

Despite the presence of traffic police personnel at both the old airport light point and Hallo Majra, there seems to be no relief. The fear of getting stuck in traffic has prompted many commuters to abandon their cars and opt for two-wheelers to reach their destinations on time. Malkit Singh, another commuter, shared, I always preferred driving my car during winters, but due to the agonizing traffic snarls in the city, I am forced to ride a motorbike to commute to my office.

As complaints continue to accumulate, residents are emphasizing the urgent need for the UT traffic police to implement measures to alleviate the deteriorating situation. UT SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, who is serving as SSP Traffic, stated, "We have adjusted the timings of traffic lights based on the traffic flow and increased personnel deployment at all points for manual intervention to manage traffic from Zirakpur.

She mentioned that proposals for road widening, service lanes, and construction of underpasses were in the pipeline, and once approved, these measures would significantly address the issue.
