Srinagar: 36 licenses, RCs canceled for violations.

In a proactive move to tackle overloading in passenger vehicles and address other traffic violations, authorities in Srinagar have taken firm action by canceling 36 licenses and vehicle registration certificates of offenders. Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) for Kashmir, spoke to the media from his office chamber, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts from all stakeholders, including civil society members and religious clerics, to educate the public on overloading and promote traffic awareness with the ultimate goal of preventing major accidents.

Bukhari emphasized the critical need to raise awareness about road safety and overloading, especially in the wake of a recent accident in Baramulla's Uri area that resulted in multiple fatalities. Acknowledging the influential role of civil societies and religious clerics in the community, he urged them to actively participate in disseminating essential information, given that people tend to closely heed their guidance.

The RTO provided details of specific actions taken in the Srinagar district, disclosing the cancellation of 36 licenses and vehicle registration certificates due to various offenses. He assured ongoing investigations at different levels and underscored the commitment to taking decisive actions in the future to prevent accidents similar to the one in Uri. Bukhari called upon the public to share the responsibility in putting an end to norm violations, signaling a collective effort to enhance road safety in the region.
