How to Present Your Driving License to Traffic Police: 4 Methods

The driving license is a crucial document required for legally operating motorcycles, scooters, or cars on public roads in India. Until recently, there was only one method to present your license to traffic police. However, advancements have introduced safer and more efficient ways to comply with this requirement. Here, we outline three legally accepted methods to produce your driving license to law enforcement agencies.

1. DigiLocker:

DigiLocker is a smartphone application that digitizes various government documents, including driving licenses. Traffic police nationwide are authorized to verify licenses through DigiLocker. To utilize this service, download the app, register, and select 'Driving License' from the homepage. Then, choose 'Ministry of Road and Transport Highways' and input your driving license number. After validation, the application generates the license in PDF format, which can be presented to traffic police when requested.

2. mParivahan:

mParivahan is another government-launched smartphone app offering diverse services, including generating a virtual driving license. After downloading and registering on the app, select 'My Virtual DL' and input your DL number and Date of Birth for validation. Upon successful validation, the app generates a virtual driving license, which can be presented to law enforcement. Authorities can also verify the license's validity by scanning the QR code using their equipment.

3. Parivahan:

The Parivahan website also provides services for validating and generating driving licenses. However, this process is cumbersome and impractical for presenting a license via phone, especially in areas with poor network connectivity.

4. Hard Copy:

Alternatively, you can present the physical copy of your driving license to police personnel. However, it's essential to note that the law requires you to produce your license when requested. Therefore, it's advisable to keep the hard copy with you and show only the necessary details to authorities. In some instances, traffic police may retain the license to verify its validity, but caution is advised as misuse of authority has been reported. Always ensure you have your license with you to comply with legal requirements effectively.
