Ola and Uber License Hearings Moved to June 18

The State Transport Appellate Tribunal (SAT) has rescheduled a hearing for both Ola and Uber license permits on June 18, 2024. Initially set for April 22, 2024, the decision date was postponed due to Uber's delay in appealing to the SAT, according to statements from the Regional Transport Office (RTO).

While Ola complied with the SAT's call for submission and presented its stance on April 20, 2024, Uber failed to submit the required documents, causing a delay in the hearing process. Both companies sought license permits to operate within Pune's transport guidelines. However, their pleas were rejected, and the RTO was tasked with further investigation, with conclusions due on April 22, the initial hearing date.

According to RTO official Sanjeev Bhor, after the rejection of both companies' licenses, a 30-day notice period was given for them to apply to a higher authority. Under the guidelines of the central government's Motor Vehicles Aggregator (MVA) scheme, if an aggregator is dissatisfied with an authority's decision, they have 30 days to appeal to the state government or a notified agency.

A meeting chaired by District Collector Suhas Diwase and attended by transport department members was held on March 11, 2024. During this meeting, it was concluded that documents submitted by Ola and Uber did not comply with MVA guidelines. Both companies have yet to adjust to government-mandated fare changes, including an increase in air-conditioned taxi fares to 37 rupees for the first one and a half kilometers and 25 rupees for each subsequent kilometer.
