New Toyota Compact SUV expected early 2024.

Kirloskar Motor is set to make a comeback in the sub-4 meter SUV segment with its upcoming compact SUV, which the media has tentatively named Toyota Taser . Expected to be launched in the first half of 2024, the vehicle will be a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Swift, similar to the relationship between the Urban Cruiser and the old Vitara Brezza.

The Tasar is expected to receive minor cosmetic modifications to differentiate it from its Maruti counterpart. These changes will include a distinctive front grille, revised front and rear bumpers and unique alloy wheel designs. Inside, the interior will see changes to the color schemes and upholstery while retaining the Fork's layout and features.

The compact SUV is expected to offer a feature-rich interior, including a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity, voice assistant capabilities, over-the-air updates, and a comprehensive safety package with six airbags. Additional features include a 6-speaker sound system, a wireless smartphone charger, fast USB charging port, and more.

Under the hood, the powertrain options of the Tesar Forex are likely to be mirrored. Buyers can choose between a 1.2 liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, which produces 90 bhp and 113 Nm, and a 1.0 liter BoosterJet petrol engine, which produces 100 bhp and 147 Nm. Transmission options include manual, AMT, or torque-converter automatic, depending on the engine.

Price is around Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom), the Tasar aims to establish itself in the premium segment of the competitive subcompact SUV category. Positioned as a strong competitor against models like the Tata Nexon, Nissan Magnite and Venue, Toyota's latest offering promises a compelling blend of style, features and affordability.

Toyota's successful collaboration with Maruti Suzuki, which is evident in ventures like the Glanza and the urban cruiser Hayrider, is expected to continue with the Tasar as well. This strategic partnership offers consumers a new option in the growing compact SUV category, and given the popularity of this market space, the Tasar has the potential to become the best-selling Toyota car in India when launched.
