The shelving of plans for the 7-seater Toyota Corolla Cross has led Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) to unveil a strategy to introduce four new SUVs within the next 12 to 18 months. Here's an overview of what's known:

1. Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor:

Expected to debut in the upcoming months, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor will fill a slot below the Urban Cruiser Hyryder and above the Glanza in Toyota's lineup. This compact SUV coupe is a reengineered version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, likely to undergo minor exterior changes. It will be offered with a choice of a 1.2L NA petrol or a 1.0L turbo petrol engine, available with both manual and automatic transmissions.

2. Toyota Fortuner Mild Hybrid:

The forthcoming mild-hybrid variant of the Fortuner integrates a 48-volt mild hybrid system with the existing GD series engine. This integration aims to reduce emissions, enhance acceleration, and notably improve fuel economy. Already expanded in the Hilux range in global markets, this variant is poised for introduction.

3. 7-Seater Toyota Hyryder:

Expected to hit the market early next year, the seven-seater version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder will compete against rivals like the MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, 7-seater Citroen C3 Aircross, and Hyundai Alcazar. Cosmetic updates will differentiate it from the standard five-seater version. Engine options will include the 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol and 1.5L strong hybrid petrol engines.

4. Toyota Electric SUV:

Inspired by the Urban electric SUV concept, the Toyota electric SUV shares similarities with the Maruti Suzuki eVX. Scheduled for launch in H2 2025, it will be available in both single and dual motor configurations, boasting a 60 kWh battery pack capable of a claimed driving range of around 550 km on a single charge. Built on Toyota's 27PL dedicated EV platform, it will compete with midsize electric SUVs such as the upcoming Maruti Suzuki eVX, Tata Curvv, and Mahindra XUV.e8, the latter set to launch in mid-2024.
