Tata is currently focusing on several upcoming products, including a mid-size SUV called the Curve. Recent reports suggest that Tata Motors is gearing up to launch this new mid-size SUV, which will directly rival the Hyundai Creta, in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric versions. Let's take a look at the expected launch timeline of these variants.

The initial release of Curve is expected in the early months of the upcoming year. Following this, the electric version of the Curve is scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2024. Thereafter, the petrol variant will be introduced in the following months.

Interestingly, this marks a deviation from Tata's usual approach, as this will be the first instance of an electric car being introduced before an ICE counterpart. The upcoming Curve Electric will directly challenge existing models such as upcoming electric offerings such as the Hyundai Creta EV and the MG ZS EV.

The new Curve will be built on a new platform which is designed to provide extended driving range. While specific platform modifications have not been disclosed, it has been expanded to accommodate more batteries, thereby increasing the overall range of the vehicle. Although the exact range of the car has not been officially revealed, Tata Motors has indicated an estimated range of 400 to 500 km.

Tata CURVV boasts of a unique design concept, notably the first of its kind. Its SUV-coupe appearance sets it apart, and this distinctive design will be retained in the production version despite its current pre-production concept stage.

Inside the cabin is a neat design. Key features include a fully digital instrument cluster and two-spoke steering wheel. An additional infotainment screen is also included. The Tata CURVV is designed to seat four passengers comfortably.

Tata has announced that their upcoming second generation EV will offer several new features, including innovative features like extended range and selectable regeneration system. In addition, Tata aims to introduce multiple battery pack options for its new generation of electric vehicles.

In terms of powertrains, the Curve will be available with a petrol engine option as well. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with an all-aluminium construction. The new engine will be equipped with a water-cooled variable geometry turbocharger that aims to deliver better torque in the lower rev range. The engine is expected to generate around 125 PS of max power and 225 Nm of torque. Notably, the current 1.2-litre turbo engine that powers various Tata models currently generates 120 PS and 170 Nm. This new engine can also come in other Tata cars like Nexon and Altroz.
