MVD to distribute licenses and RCs starting today.

Amid criticism for the delay in distributing driving licenses and Registration Certificates (RCs) the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) has announced the resumption of distribution starting Monday.

The department has reached an agreement with the postal department for the distribution of 26 500 driving licenses and 28 000 RCs.

Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar stated that the backlog distribution would be completed within the next three weeks.

"Applicants will receive messages on their registered mobile phones regarding the printing and dispatching of documents. The printing company has already printed over 24 000 documents. Printing and distribution will be an ongoing process starting from Monday " he said.

Earlier the postal department had halted distribution due to non-payment of dues in November last year.

The Indian Telephone Industries (ITI) responsible for printing the documents on PVC cards had also stopped printing after the MVD failed to pay Rs 9 crore to the company.

The issue was resolved after the finance department approved the necessary funds.
