Bengaluru: From November 2 to 4, the city hosted the Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2022. This demonstrates that Karnataka is leading the nation in producing green hydrogen.

According to E V Ramana Reddy, assistant chief secretary of the commercial and industrial department, Mangaluru would be the site of the nation's first green hydrogen cluster.

Several companies have expressed interest in investing in Karnataka to manufacture green hydrogen, including ACME Solar, ABC Cleantech, ReNew Power, Avaada Energy, JSW Green Hydrogen, Petronas Hydrogen, and O2 Power.

The green hydrogen project will receive about 1.5 lac rupees in funding. The investors have requested property close to the port in Mangaluru. Green Hydrogen may be transformed to green ammonia and exported, according to Reddy.

"Around 100 to 300 acres of land are needed for the installation of green hydrogen units. The continuous supply of solar and wind energy is most significant. Through transmission lines operated by the Power Grid Corporation of India or the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited, green energy will be sent to Mangaluru's hydrogen reactors." continued Reddy.

Schemes will be introduced in stages. At the very least, this will take five to six years. In order to establish India as the global manufacturing hub for hydrogen, PM Modi announced the National Hydrogen Mission. He predicted that India will start exporting gasoline and hydrogen before 2047.

Karnataka is prepared to contribute significantly to the global supply chain. The world's supply chain was hampered by Covid. Karnataka is the ideal place to go, given the current political and geological conditions.

"Karnataka already has an excellent environment system for electronics, system design, and manufacturing (ESDM). The state is the biggest chip designer facility of India with more than 85 Fables Chip design like Intel, Qualcom, NVIDIA, applied materials, AMD etc. We have given priority to attract investments in semi-conductor and other ESDM production sector," he said.

Green hydrogen can be utilized in an emergency just as regular hydrogen when it is created using renewable energy or a method. The same can be delivered by natural gas pipelines or in the form of gas.
