Adopting a shared path for green hydrogen, France and India

The "Indo-French Roadmap on the Development of Green Hydrogen" was adopted on Tuesday by Union Power and New & Renewable Energy Minister R K Singh and Chrysoula Zacharopoulou, France's Minister of State for Development, Francophonie, and International Partnerships.

According to a statement from the French Embassy, both France and India have set ambitious national hydrogen goals because they both feel that decarbonized hydrogen has a significant potential to help decarbonize our economy.

President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a clear directive to promote bilateral collaboration on hydrogen during their meeting on May 4, 2022, in Paris.

This mandate is fulfilled with the acceptance of the plan. In order to create a trustworthy and sustainable value chain for decarbonised hydrogen and realise our shared objective of being global leaders in decarbonised hydrogen, it intends to integrate the French and Indian hydrogen ecosystems.

Today, I am happy to begin this ambitious new chapter in the Indo-French relationship for the planet, Minister Chrysoula Zacharopoulou stated at the event. In order to power the future decarbonized hydrogen sector, France and India are cooperating. It sends a clear statement about our two nations' commitment to a low-carbon future because it occurs a few weeks before COP27. This comprehensive and practical strategy will enable us to achieve our carbon neutrality goals and speed up the transition to sustainable energy.

France and India pledge to cooperate on the following through this roadmap:

    1. Setting up a legal framework for the creation of a decarbonized hydrogen value chain, which would include its production, storage, transit, and use.

    2. Creating reliable procedures for certifying the carbon content of decarbonised hydrogen over the course of its lifespan. Programs for talent development and knowledge exchange amongst certifying bodies will be supported.

    3. Supporting R&D to enhance hydrogen technologies In order to do this, France and India will make it easier for researchers to get visas while also encouraging cooperation between their respective research organisations.

    4. Fostering business collaborations between the French and Indian energy sectors. Contacts between businesspeople, administrative processes, and experimental initiatives will all be made easier by France and India.
