With a focus on creating good social impact across sectors, United Way Mumbai collaborated with Castrol India Limited and the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Andheri to provide licence applicants with 2-wheeler training through simulator. Today, August 12, 2022, a symbolic event was held to introduce the simulator. The city's first RTO, Andheri RTO, installed a two-wheeler simulator in 2018, which was used to train licence applicants. However, due to the covid-19 outbreak and the ensuing lockdown, the venture was abandoned in March 2020. The goal of United Way Mumbai is to provide professional training to all applicants for learner licences in an effort to make roads and road travel safer for drivers and passengers as well as to raise awareness of laws and regulations. United Way Mumbai has placed qualified trainers at the RTO office five days a week throughout the year as part of the campaign. The initiative will make sure that applicants for two-wheeler driving permits are well-trained and have passed the simulator exam before receiving their permits.

Impact till date at Andheri RTO:

14,859 licence candidates have received training in safe two-wheeler operation since May 2019. With the usage of the two-wheeler simulator, our objective is to make this training more interesting and comprehensive for the participants, stated George Aikara, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of United Way Mumbai. With assistance from Castrol India, we had been offering this training at Andheri RTO since May 2018. Following the epidemic, we will continue this programme. There is potential to integrate such formal training within India's system for issuing licences. We intend to work with more RTO offices to replicate this project because there aren't many professional training facilities for two-wheeler riders in India.

Safety is at the centre of all we do at Castrol, and with this association, we intend to instill this value in each rider, according to Rekha Pillai, Head Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)-Castrol India Limited. The simulator will give licence applicants improved training to accurately assess their riding skills and further raise their level of knowledge of traffic laws, safe distances, speed restrictions, and pedestrian safety. We may help motorcyclists maintain safe traffic flow in India by influencing the right riding habits.
