Jammu and Kashmir experiences a two-wheeler surge with 1.2 million new registrations

There has been a significant increase in two-wheeler sales in Jammu and Kashmir despite the increase in prices.

Data from the Regional Transport Office in Srinagar shows that between the beginning of 2022 and March of the current year, Jammu and Kashmir saw a registration of 81,031 new two-wheelers hitting the roads.

Srinagar city leads with 12,088 new two-wheelers hitting the roads in 2022. Following the trend is Baramulla district in north Kashmir, which saw 3,236 new bike and scooty registrations till March 2023, while Anantnag district recorded 3,068 new two-wheeler registrations.

Data shows that 2,569 new bikes and scooties were registered in Budgam district. Officials also see a rise in sales in the Jammu region, where 53,052 new two-wheelers are expected to be registered in 2022.

The cumulative data set shows that the Kashmir region recorded 428,912 two-wheeler registrations, while Jammu city recorded 597,400 registrations till March 2023. In all, 864,679 two-wheelers have been registered in the Jammu region, resulting in 1,293,591 registrations for Jammu as a whole. , And Kashmir.

We have seen a significant increase in demand for loans to buy two-wheelers. Scooters have become a favorite mode of transport among students, especially girls. The easy availability of loans from banks has made them an affordable option, said Muhammad Ameer, associate credit in-charge at JK Bank.

As per the RTO data, Srinagar city recorded 196,727 registrations of new two-wheelers, which leads the list, followed by Anantnag with 49,089 new registrations. Baramulla district recorded 41,846 new two-wheeler registrations, and at the same time, Budgam district recorded 38,804 new two-wheeler registrations.
