Rs 20 lakh Toyota 7-seater launch.

Toyota currently holds a commanding position in the 7-seater market, boasting popular models such as the Innova and Hycross. Expanding its reach into the affordable category, Toyota has engaged in badge engineering by introducing the Ertiga as the Rumion. Reports suggest that the automaker is now gearing up to launch a new 7-seater model based on the Hyryder, a vehicle manufactured by Maruti and supplied to Toyota. This upcoming SUV is positioned to rival competitors such as the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, and Tata Safari.

Priced around 20 lakh, the Hyryder 7-seater will continue to utilize Maruti's Global C platform. Although the length may see an increase to accommodate additional rows, other dimensions, including the wheelbase, are expected to remain unchanged. To establish a distinctive identity for the Toyota variant, design modifications are anticipated. Feature-wise, the 7-seater may come equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), rear sun shades, front parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers, and more.

In terms of specifications, the 7-seater is likely to share similarities with the Hyryder, featuring a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine. However, both Toyota and Maruti face the challenge of accommodating the battery pack, which currently encroaches on the boot space. An alternative solution is being sought to preserve space for the third row.

Looking forward, Toyota has ambitious plans, including the launch of three new SUVs. This lineup comprises a rebadged version of the Fronx expected this year, the Hyryder 7-seater as described above, and a new SUV based on the global Corolla Cross. The Corolla Cross-based 7-seater is set to offer enhanced SUV characteristics and is anticipated to hit the market alongside Toyota's first electric vehicle in 2025.
