Rajiv Bajaj reveals engine size for upcoming CNG motorcycles

The talk of the season revolves around the introduction of CNG-powered motorcycles with Rajiv Bajaj leading the charge. Bajaj has announced plans to develop the first-ever CNG motorcycles heralded as the next major breakthrough in the industry. Anticipated to hit the market as early as the next quarter this move aims to replicate the transformative impact witnessed four decades ago with the advent of Hero Honda CD100.

In the current landscape marked by a rapid transition towards electric vehicles Bajaj's initiative holds significant promise. However it's worth noting that internal combustion engines (ICE) running on CNG may exhibit a different performance characteristic compared to their petrol counterparts. This suggests that CNG motorcycles may require slight adjustments in power delivery or displacement to match the responsiveness of their petrol counterparts.

Rajiv Bajaj has shed light on Bajaj's target segment in a recent interview indicating a focus on the three primary displacement categories dominating the market: 100cc 125cc and 150/160cc. Bajaj aims to introduce CNG motorcycles across these segments aligning with its strategy to dedicate a portfolio to CNG-powered vehicles.

While the exact engine capacity of the initial CNG motorcycle remains undisclosed Rajiv Bajaj hinted at a staggered approach. The company plans to launch a single product initially ensuring it meets market demands and refining its offering accordingly. Once established Bajaj intends to expand its CNG motorcycle portfolio to cover the aforementioned displacements.

Recent sightings of a test mule alongside a Platina suggest that the first CNG motorcycle could likely debut in the 100-110cc range. However official confirmation regarding the engine capacity is yet to be made public.
