Pune Takes a Green Step: 5 ST Depots, Including Swargate, Going Fully Electric

In a notable stride towards sustainability the State Transport (ST) division in Pune is poised for a significant transformation mirroring the success of the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMP).

Five prominent bus depots in Pune—Swargate Indapur Manchar Alandi and Sangvi—are set to transition to fully electric following PMP’s pioneering steps in electrifying its infrastructure.

Embracing a modernization drive akin to PMP ST is poised to electrify not only its depots but also its operations and passenger services. This ambitious endeavor marks a pivotal moment for ST underscoring its dedication to sustainability and innovation.

The initiative entails the electrification of 251 e-trains in the Pune section spearheaded by the Swargate depot with 137 e-trains followed by Sangvi (30) Indapur (29) Manchar (27) and Alandi (28). Additionally the fleet will welcome 44 E-Shivneri buses and 20 E-Shiwai buses totaling 64 e-buses further mitigating carbon emissions and promoting eco-friendly transportation options.

The procurement process for establishing the e-depot has been completed with MSR E-trans Prof. Ltd. entrusted with the task. A recent agreement solidified this partnership facilitating the formation of a joint committee comprising company and ST officials. This committee will oversee the selection and inspection of warehouse locations laying the groundwork for the swift establishment of the e-depot.
