Pune District Collector urges measures to reduce accidents at 63 identified black spots.

Pune District Collector Rajesh Deshmukh has directed the concerned authorities, including Pune city and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, to conduct a joint survey at 63 identified accident-prone spots on roads across the district with an aim to reduce the fatality rate.

As part of long-term road safety initiatives, Deshmukh has mandated a detailed study and analysis of these accident-prone spots. The analysis will be done by officials of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Municipal Council CEO, Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Public Works Department.

Deshmukh's directions were issued after a road safety review meeting organized by the Road Safety Committee. He emphasized that there has been a significant increase of 113 per cent in road accidents involving two-wheeler riders and pedestrians in the district.

Various places have been identified as black spots, including Dukkar Khind, Mundwa Railway Bridge, Katraj Chowk, Dari Pool, New Katraj Tunnel, IBM Company, Ravidarshan 15, Tata Garden Chowk, Kharadi Bypass, Reliance Mart, 509 Chowk, Includes Viman Nagar Chowk. , Involved. Kharadi Zakat Naka, Khadi Machine Chowk, Navale Bridge, Bhumkar Chowk, Sancheti Chowk, Sangamwadi Parking, Kadam Walk Wasti, Loni Station Chowk and Theu Phata Chowk.

Deshmukh highlighted the need to make roads safe for all commuters and stressed that the city's accident rate is relatively high. He expressed the importance of understanding the ground situation and taking necessary measures to address it.

DCP (Traffic) Vijay Kumar Magar said that based on the instructions of the district administration, immediate action will be taken after analyzing the black spots. He mentioned that expert studies have already been conducted, but additional enhancements will be made based on the inputs received.

The directions issued by the District Collector include setting up ambulance points near black spots, developing an accident management plan for faster transportation of victims to hospitals during golden hours, formulation and implementation of short and long-term strategies to reduce Is. Installation of safety features like accident prone, ramblers, thermoplastic road markings, information boards, road dividers, blinkers and reflectors. The District Collector also proposed an independent expert survey of all black spots to identify remedial measures to ensure safety of passengers.

Furthermore, Deshmukh advocated strict enforcement of helmet rules to deal with the increasing accidents in the district. He acknowledged that due to continuous efforts, accidents have come down at some places like Navale Bridge, Pune-Ahmednagar Highway and Pune-Solapur Highway.
