How to Obtain a Heavy Vehicle License?

To legally drive on the road in India, you must have a driving license. To obtain a driver's license, you must follow a specific protocol. Before submitting an application, you need also determine which category your car belongs to.

  • Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle(HPMV): Commercial purpose vehicles having All India Permit to carry passengers.
  • Heavy Goods Motor Vehicle (HGMV): Heavy vehicles used to carry goods.
  • Motorcycle With Gear (MCWG): With and without gear motorcycles.
  • Motorcycle more than 50cc (MC EX50CC): With gear vehicles having engine capacity 50cc or more.
  • Fee Generating Value (FGV): Without gear vehicles like mopeds and scooters.
  • Motorcycle 50cc (MC 50cc): Vehicles having engine capacity 50cc or less.
  • Non-transport class vehicles like cars.: Light Motor Vehicle - Non Transport (LMV-NT)

What types of vehicles are HGMV?

Heavy Goods Motor Vehicle (HGMV) refers to vehicles such as trucks, lorries, waste haulers, and so on. These are heavy-duty vehicles that are mostly utilized for business purposes. The skills required to drive these vehicles differ from those required to drive normal automobiles. Driving these cars necessitates greater efficiency due to the considerable risk involved when on the road.

HGMV Eligibility Criteria:

  • To apply for this license, you must be at least 20 years old.
  • The applicant must be in good mental and physical health.
  • The applicant's training should be completed at a government-approved or connected motor training school.
  • The candidate must have a valid learner's permit.

Documents needed while applying for an HGMV driver's license:

  • Residential proof: Ration card, electricity bill etc.
  • Identity proof: Aadhaar card, PAN card, etc.
  • Age proof: 10th passing certificate, birth certificate, etc.
  • Duly signed application form.

How to Apply for an HGMV Driver's License Online?

  1. Go to Parivahan website.
  2. Keep the pointer on 'Online Services' , and then click on 'Driving License Related Services.'
  3. From the drop-down menu, choose the state where you want to apply.
  4. Select 'Apply for a Driver's License.'
  5. Press the 'Continue' button.
  6. To proceed, enter your 'Learning License Number' and 'Date of Birth.'
  7. Fill out the application form with your information and specify which category you require a license for.
  8. Press the 'Next' button.
  9. Schedule a visit to the RTO.

Obtaining an HGMV Driving License Offline:

If you want to apply for an HGMV driving license offline, you can go to the local RTO office with the relevant documents and fill out an offline application. After reviewing all of your documentation, the officer in charge will walk you through the procedure.

When you pay the application fees, you will receive an acknowledgement receipt with your application number on it. The date and time of your driving test will be sent to you shortly.
