Sona Comstar and C-Motive Tech are collaborating to create a magnet-free electrostatic motor for EVs.

Sona (BLW) Baby-Led Weaning Precision Forgings (Sona Comstar), a Tier 1 supplier, has joined forces with C-Motive Technologies, situated in the United States. According to the agreement, Sona Comstar and C-Motive will work together to create electrostatic drive motors for electric vehicle applications, with serial production expected to begin in 2026. The plan includes, among other things, participation in C-most Motive's recent fundraising round.

C-Motive Technologies claims to have created the world's first commercially practical electrostatic motor. Unlike standard electric motors, which employ electromagnetic forces to transfer electric power to mechanical power, C-product Motive's leverages static cling to free engineers and designers from the constraints of permanent magnets and active cooling. Without the use of rare earth metals or permanent magnets, electrostatic machines provide great torque and ultra-high efficiency at low speeds.

Additionally, electrostatic machine technology may be expanded from a single kilowatt to tens of megawatts. The machines may be constructed for a variety of applications, ranging from tiny, modular torque motors for stationary applications to big, robust machines for e-mobility drivetrains and multi-megawatt wind turbine generators. C-technology Motive's is said to produce a machine that is less price volatile and more efficient at the same time, lowering embodied carbon and carbon emissions along the way by restricting the usage of copper and eliminating the requirement for permanent magnets.

Sona Comstar's group The Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Kiran M Deshmukh, stated, "C-high Motive's motor's but ripple-free torque generation without active cooling, very little copper, and no rare earth metals or magnets impresses us. There will be a substantial market potential in the fast-growing e-mobility sector with the development of technologically superior and economically competitive products compared to existing electromagnetic motors."

C-Motive Technologies Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Matthew Maroon stated, We share Sona Comstar's vision for the future mobility markets and feel that their technological expertise, worldwide reach, and high-quality manufacturing processes are a perfect fit for C-next-generation Motive's motor technology. We will be able to speed the world's transition to electrified mobility by developing a product that is both efficient and ecologically friendly.
