New Regulations For Foreign-Registered Vehicles Operating in India are Announced by MoRTH

In order to formalize the movement of Non-Transport or Personal cars registered in other countries and entering or operating in India, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has released the Motor Vehicles Non-Transport Vehicles Visiting India Rules, 2022.

    - The new regulations seek to formalize the movement of personal or non-transportation vehicles.

New Motor Cars Non Transport Vehicles Visiting India Rules, 2022 from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) formalize the movement of Non-Transport or Personal vehicles registered in other countries that enter or operate inside Indian territory. A valid registration certificate, a valid driver's licence or international driving permit, as appropriate, a valid insurance policy and a valid pollution under control certificate must be carried in the vehicle(s) operating under these rules during the duration of the visitor's stay in the country, per the new regulations (if applicable in the origin country).

The requirements further provide that original papers must be carried together with an authorized English translation that has been legally validated by the issuing authority if the aforementioned documents are not in English. Within the borders of India, local passenger and cargo transportation is prohibited for motor vehicles registered in any nation other than India. Additionally, the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 of India's must be complied with by motor vehicles registered in any nation other than India.

The Bharat series, or BH-series, is a new registration mark for new automobiles that MoRTH also announced last year. A car with this registration mark won't need a new registration mark when its owner moves from one state to another, according to a formal announcement made by the ministry. Defense personnel, employees of the Central Government, State Government, Central / State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), and private sector companies/organizations with offices in four or more States / Union territories may voluntarily use the vehicle registration facility under the "Bharat series" or BH-series.
