Pune's non-stop bus service, operated by the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML), is gearing up for a significant expansion in response to growing commuter demand. A recent survey conducted by PMPML has paved the way for identifying new routes within the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) limits, marking a positive step forward.
Currently, PMPML is actively strategizing to extend the reach of its non-stop bus service, with approximately 200 potential routes under evaluation. Out of these, 20 routes have already shown promise, with a particular emphasis on enhancing long-distance travel options within the PMRDA region.
This ambitious initiative is spearheaded by the Chief Managing Director (CMD) of PMPML and is primarily aimed at reducing travel times for commuters along the extended routes within the PMRDA boundaries. The goal is to make public transportation more efficient and accessible for residents and visitors alike.
The non-stop bus service, initially introduced on four routes, features air-conditioned buses operating without conductors, requiring passengers to purchase tickets in advance. This streamlined approach has garnered significant interest among commuters seeking swift and convenient travel options.
Satish Gate, the Public Relations Officer for PMPML, emphasized that the service expansion would proceed only after considering feedback from citizens and finalizing the selected routes. Furthermore, ticket prices will remain consistent, ensuring affordability for passengers while delivering an expedited and time-saving travel experience.
As Pune's non-stop bus service continues to evolve, it promises to provide more accessible and efficient transportation solutions, catering to the needs of a growing urban population.
