The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chief general manager was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday, according to authorities, for allegedly receiving a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. They said that Sadre Alam, who is employed by the regional office in Patna, was captured accepting the bribe from two workers of a private firm.
The officials said that a search of his property resulted in the discovery of Rs 60 lakh in cash.
They said, "The paperwork for the arrest are still ongoing."
Alam is said to have asked for a bribe from representatives of a private firm with offices in Nashik in order to settle inflated invoices, manipulate measurement records, etc.
"There are eight locations where searches are being carried out. The claimed CGM, NHAI's premises also contained some cash, estimated to be worth Rs 60 lakh. There are ongoing searches," CBI released a statement.
