PANJIM: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has granted a massive Rs 2,228 crore for different projects in the State, significantly bolstering the state's road infrastructure.
Goa's yearly plan for 2022–2023 national highway construction, with a total spending of Rs 2,228 crore, has been approved by the MoRTH.
Six-lane, Rs 600 crore flyover from Guirim to Teen Building, Porvorim, is one of the projects. A comparable project that was first intended for 2020 met a snag when the contractor said he didn't want to move through with it.
The projects also include building a paved shoulder and four lanes with a shoulder from Navelim to Cuncolim, a 6.5 km length, at a cost of Rs 361 crore, and an 8 km stretch along the Goa-Karnataka border from the end of the Canacona bypass (Mashem) to Pollem, at a cost of Rs 177 crore.
The Union government approved Rs 79 crore for land purchase, clearing the way for the extension of the National Highway (NH) 17 near Karmalghat. The project involves widening a 4 km length of road to four lanes.
The MoRTH explicitly stated in its letters of clearance of the project estimates that the projects must be finished within two years of the date the work was awarded and that there will be no additional time allowed.
