Internship Opportunities in National Highway Projects for Civil Engineering Students; More Information Here

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has decided to offer internships in National Highway projects to final-year Civil Engineering students from Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and government/private engineering institutes. Final-year BTech/MTech students can take advantage of this chance to gain on-the-job experience working with consultants, contractors of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and other organisations. "The internship duration should be at least three months, with at least 12 weeks assigned to the contractor and consultant of a specific roadway project," according to a MoRTH announcement. The internship program will begin in the 2022-23 academic year.

To apply for the internship programmed, students must have a minimum of 70% (CGPA 7) in the previous semesters. "Students can apply for the internship program online through the AICTE portal at through July 15. The Ministry will shortlist the candidates and assign them to various NH projects within the Ministry's implementing agencies, namely National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL), Border Roads Organization (BRO), and State Public Works Department (PWD)," according to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) announcement.

BTech students would receive a monthly stipend of Rs 10,000, while MTech students will receive Rs 15,000 per month. Successful students will get internship certificates, with a minimum passing grade of 75.

The method of evaluation will be :

  • Presentation on internship learning and experience- 20 marks
  • Report on internship learning and experience- 40 marks
  • General assessment by Project manager of contractor/concessionaire- 10 marks
  • General assessment by team leader of AE/IE/PMC- 10 marks
  • General assessment by PD/EE of NHAI/NHIDCLlBRO/StatePW- 10 marks
  • Attendance- 10 marks.

"BRO shall review the presentation and report, award marks, and eventually determine whether or not to grant a certificate to the intern based on overall score," it stated.
