India's gasoline demand increased 6.1% over the same month last year.

According to statistics released on Monday by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) of the oil ministry, India's fuel consumption increased 6.1% year over year in July but decreased 5.7% from the previous month.

Fuel consumption, which serves as a proxy for oil demand, came to a total of 17.62 million tones in July, down from 18.68 million tones in June. At 2.81 million tones, gasoline sales were 6.8% higher than they had been a year prior.

According to preliminary sales figures, gas and oil sales by Indian state refiners decreased in July compared to a month earlier as monsoon rains limited travel and building activities and high inflation reduced overall demand for commodities.
