Government To Develop New Law Regarding Speed Limits And Horns

A new road speed restriction policy and new car horn rules may be implemented in India shortly. A group composed of officials from the Center and States is anticipated to develop the new policy. According to a report in the Times of India, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari recently informed state transport ministers that the setting of speed limits for roads was a matter for both the Center and the States. He also invited the ministers to Delhi to help draught a new policy regarding speed and horns.

Following the accident that claimed the life of the former chairman of Tata Sons, Cyrus Mistry, concerns over car passenger safety and speed restrictions have risen to the fore in India's automotive sector. According to sources, Mistry's death was caused by a number of things, such as not using seatbelts in the back seats, driving too fast, and bad road construction.

According to reports, Gadkari has invited state transport ministers to visit Delhi to talk about a new policy on speed limits.

According to reports, Gadkari stated that the ministers will create a new policy that would determine the top speed at which cars may travel on expressways, national and state highways, and other types of roads.

In the meanwhile, the government's horn policy may see the implementation of more limitations on horn usage and aftermarket horn installation in automobiles. According to current standards, vehicle horns must range in volume from 93 to 112 decibels when placed 7.5 metres from the vehicle.

Gadkari has earlier proposed using Indian musical instruments as car horns across the nation, but it is still unclear whether this suggestion would be put into action.
