Soon, there will be an effort to regulate the movement of e-rickshaws in Lucknow.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC), in collaboration with the district administration, traffic police, and the transport department, will announce the routes within the city where e-rickshaws would be permitted to operate. Lucknow The district administration, department of transport, traffic police, and Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) would manage their movement, deciding their routes and parking places, to prevent carelessly parked e-rickshaws from blocking roadways and generating traffic jams.

"Several e-rickshaws were discovered parked on both sides of the road during a recent anti-encroachment campaign in Charbagh, obstructing a significant portion of the route. The decision was made in response to concerns from residents about e-rickshaws turning roadways into stands and stopping in the middle of the road to pick up passengers. "Streamlining and controlling the movements of e-rickshaws across the state capital is vital to decongest busy roadways as soon as possible," an LMC official said.

"The municipal corporation, in collaboration with the district administration, traffic police, and transportation department, would choose routes within the city where e-rickshaws would be permitted to operate. Regulating the movement of e-rickshaws is the necessity of the hour," said municipal commissioner Ajay Dwivedi.

There have been multiple reports that most e-rickshaw drivers do not turn on the front light at night to preserve battery power, and instead park their cars in the lanes of fast-moving automobiles, slowing down traffic flow. Another criticism is that they stop their e-rickshaws anywhere to pick up a passenger and park their vehicles even in the middle of the road, even at major intersections.

Meanwhile, Regional Transport Office (RTO) Rampher Dwivedi stated, "While movement of e-rickshaws is restricted on some routes, they continue to operate. Soon, a campaign to streamline the movement of such e-rickshaws would be initiated."
