Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce the general budget for fiscal year 2022-23. The Finance Minister has made significant statements aimed at promoting transportation. The Finance Minister stated that within a year, a network of 25,000 kilometers of National Highways will be built across the country.
This 25000 kilometers road network will be built by the Ministry of Road Transport. Bharatmala Project, Green Corridor, Economic Corridor, and Expressway are among them. Aside from that, the Ministry of Road Transport will prepare a 16000 kilometer road network. In the previous fiscal year, the Ministry of Road Transport built around 12500 kilometers roads (2020-21). Every day, an average of 37 kilometers of road are built.
In the next three years, India's national highway network is predicted to develop by more than 25%. Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Roads, has stated that the Centre's goal is to connect 2 lakh kilometers of national highways by 2025. India already has a national highway network of more than 1.40 lakh kilometers.
