Following the positive reaction to digital buses on two routes between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and Nariman Point/Cuffe Parade, Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has decided to launch 20 additional buses on a few more routes this month.
The digital buses allow for tap-in and tap-out transactions, as well as paperless transactions. "Tap-in, tap-out buses are becoming popular, with 80 percent of passengers utilizing smartphone applications or Chalo smartcards for digital travel, BEST general manager Lokesh Chandra said. They tap in when boarding and tap out while exiting the bus, and the fare is immediately computed and withdrawn from their mobile/smartcard wallet, anticipating that such buses will have 90% of passengers by the end of the month." he added,
