Are Mumbai cabs turning down requests for short trips? You may now immediately contact specialised RTO teams.

Mumbai: Do the city's taxi drivers reject requests for short-distance rides? Now that a dedicated team has been established by the Tardeo Regional Transport Office (RTO), you can speak with them immediately and file a complaint against the cab. For the convenience of commuters, the Tardeo RTO has provided an email address, WhatsApp chat facility, and phone number.

According to a senior official, a three-person special squad of authorities would frequently patrol important areas of the city to apprehend the drivers who decline short trips. The RTO team has given notice to 19 taxi drivers in the last 12 days for refusing short-distance passengers. More squads will be formed, and inspection rounds will be increased, according to the authority.

For this, a control room has also been built up. The team's members have all received training. A senior official involved in this program informed reporters that drivers who annoy passengers and refuse to play music for short distances would undoubtedly face punishment.

Additionally, the RTO team will speak with taxi drivers in the city at random and explain the rules of the Motor Vehicle Act to them as well as issue warnings to cease overcharging, denying customers, and acting rudely to passengers. The city's visitors applauded the action and expressed their opinion that it will greatly benefit them.

I hope the complaint system will help change this attitude, said a passenger from South Mumbai. "I appreciate the RTO department for coming up with such an initiative. Many of the cabbies in Mumbai regularly refuse short-distance trips. Even if we tell them that it is urgent, they would not accept," the passenger said.

Similar initiatives are anticipated from other RTO zones as well.
