Electric vehicle sales in the country have tripled in the last financial year.

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in the country are constantly increasing. The popularity of electric vehicles appears to be growing. As the price of petrol and diesel continues to rise, more people are choosing for electric vehicles. Retail sales of electric cars in the country tripled in the fiscal year 2021-22.

Electric car sales have more than tripled to nearly 4 lakh units. The two-wheeler segment accounts for the majority of electric vehicle sales. According to the Federation of Vehicle Dealers Association (FADA), this is the case.

There had never been so many sales of electric vehicles before. In Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-22, total retail sales of electric vehicles tripled to 4,29,217 units. In the previous financial year 2020-21, there were 34,821 units were sold.

Tata at the forefront

In 2019-20, FADA reports that 1,68,300 electric vehicles were sold in the country. Retail sales of electric passenger vehicles tripled in the last fiscal year, from 4,984 units in 2020-21 to 17,802 units. Tata Motors, a domestic automaker, led the segment with 15,198 units sold. Tata had a market share of 85.37 percent in the auction. In 2020-21, the company sold 3,523 units.

Data obtained by FADA from RTO

Out of 1,605 Regional Transport Offices (RTOs), FADA acquired data from 1,397 of them. Electric three-wheeler sales grew to 1,77,874 units in the previous fiscal year, according to the FADA. In the preceding financial year, 88,391 units were sold. Electric commercial vehicle sales climbed from 400 to 2,203 units in the same period.
