India is introducing a satellite-based toll collection system to enhance efficiency and reduce congestion on highways. This technology, led by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, promises a seamless travel experience by charging vehicles based on actual distance traveled, replacing the current FASTag system.

This innovative system utilizes satellite technology to track vehicles on highways. Each vehicle will have an on-board unit (OBU), and toll charges will be calculated accurately based on the precise distance covered. It aims to eliminate the need for toll plazas and offers a fair billing system compared to fixed-rate tolls.
