Suzuki e-Burgman unveiled in Japan with exclusive pictures.

Suzuki has unveiled an electric version of the Burgman scooter at the Japan Mobility Show 2023. The electric Burgman prototype, often seen on Indian roads, has been tested for more than two years and features a replaceable battery system known as Gachaco.

The prototype has a dual tone color scheme of white and blue, similar to the Suzuki e-Bergman seen in India. The e-Burgman has been tested with Gachco replaceable battery technology in Tokyo and Osaka, providing insight into its everyday usability in a variety of situations. Suzuki intends to use the data collected from these tests for the development of its upcoming series of zero-emission vehicles.

The e-Burgman features a sharp apron design with LED headlamps and boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights. It comes with a tall transparent windscreen, single-piece seat, black-finished five-spoke alloy wheels and other notable features like LED tail lamps, clear lens turn indicators, twin-sided rear shock absorbers and telescopic front forks.

The electric Burgman is equipped with a synchronous electric motor and a replaceable lithium-ion battery pack, providing a range of 44 km. However, the riding range is expected to be much higher when the scooter is introduced in India. The scooter measures 1,825 mm length, 765 mm width, 1,140 mm height, seat height 780 mm and weighs 147 kg.

The Gachaco battery-swapping network across Japan is expected to play a key role in alleviating range anxiety for electric vehicles. In addition to the electric Burgman, Suzuki has also showcased a hydrogen-powered version, featuring a 70 MPa hydrogen tank. This technology may initially be introduced in larger Burgman models, with the Burgman 400 being a likely candidate to adopt this hydrogen-based powertrain.
