Simple Energy's Sub Rs. 1 Lakh e-Scooter Launch Next Month

Simple Energy is set to launch a new zero-emission scooter in the Indian market on December 15, 2023. Positioned below the Simple One, the Bengaluru-based startup's first offering, the upcoming scooter named Dot is expected to be priced competitively under Rs. 1 Lac. This puts it in direct competition with the Ola S1X, which is in line with the trend of new electric two-wheeler manufacturers pricing their models aggressively to drive volume sales and gain market share in India.

The Dot is expected to share similarities with the Simple One to achieve economies of scale, with the more expensive one potentially featuring a fixed battery pack rather than a removable unit. The Simple One currently has a 3.7 kWh battery pack and a claimed riding range of 160 km on a single charge. To maintain cost competitiveness, the Dot may use a slightly less powerful electric motor and have a feature list with fewer technologies.

The design of the Dot is expected to be largely similar to the One, with subtle changes for the distinctive appearance. The e-scooter will offer over 30 liters of under-storage capacity and will include a TFT touchscreen display with Bluetooth connectivity. With over one lakh bookings for One, Simple Energy aims to cater to the needs of a wider audience with Dot while expanding its presence in the market.

The launch of the Dot follows the expansion of Ola Electric's S1 series, and Ather Energy plans to introduce a new 450 and an affordable family-based electric scooter in the coming year. Simple Energy's strategy reflects the industry trend of introducing affordable electric scooters to attract a larger customer base in the rapidly growing Indian electric two-wheeler market.
