RTO and traffic police initiate crackdown on disorderly autos at Kurla and LTT

Mumbai's RTOs and Traffic Police have initiated a crackdown on unruly autorickshaw drivers in the eastern and central suburbs. This effort targeted various offenses such as fare refusal, overloading, and operating vehicles in poor condition. The joint drive by RTOs and traffic police is a response to consistent reports about commuter issues caused by unruly share autorickshaw/taxi drivers.

Over 280 cases have been registered against auto drivers for breaching traffic laws, including fare refusal and overloading. The crackdown has covered areas like Kurla, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus, Mulund, Chembur, and Vikhroli.

During the drive, authorities observed auto drivers attempting to evade capture by taking detours in traffic. Autos in poor condition without proper documentation were also apprehended. Commuters have highlighted the need to improve autorickshaw operations around congested areas like Kurla station.
