Navi Mumbai RTO targets private passenger buses in special drive.

In response to the increasing number of accidents involving private passenger buses on the Samruddhi Highway and concerns over safety irregularities and license violations, the Navi Mumbai Sub-Regional Transport Department has launched a special inspection drive. Under this campaign, a fine of Rs 50,000 has been collected. 7.42 lakh from 78 private passenger buses violating license conditions and rules.

Several issues including plying of buses without valid license, fitness certificate, insurance and PUC came to the fore during the comprehensive inspection. Some buses were also engaged in illegal transportation of passengers as well as goods, while several drivers were caught transporting more than the seating capacity of the vehicle.

The State Transport Department has initiated this action to address the alarming rise in accidents involving private passenger buses and to hold irresponsible operators and drivers accountable for compromising passenger safety.

Deputy Regional Transport Officer Hemangini Patil stressed the importance of the campaign in ensuring passenger safety. The action taken against the violating buses is aimed at setting an example for other private bus operators, thereby encouraging strict compliance of all licensing and safety norms.

Patil also emphasized on the commitment of the department to create a safe and reliable transport system. Efforts will continue for prevention of excessive fare charges for compliance of vehicle tax payment, proper functioning of emergency doors, lawful transportation of goods, adherence to seating capacity, installation and functioning of speed governors and safeguarding the well-being of passengers.
