To streamline the traffic and enforce the rules, a live demonstration was conducted by the eligible bidders at the traffic light of Sector 66/88 in Mohali on Thursday. The initiative aims to manage traffic chaos, prevent violations and maintain law and order through implementation of city monitoring and traffic management system.

Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said Punjab Police Housing Corporation is handling the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the city surveillance and traffic management systems. This comprehensive system will enable the district police to maintain law and order by issuing e-challan for various traffic violations including crossing red light, over-speeding, triple riding and riding without helmet.

Elaborating further, Jain said, The e-challan platform will be integrated with NIC-based databases like Vahan and Sarathi. Initially, the system will be deployed at 20 locations across the city, with an estimated project cost of around Rs 8.50 crore. Funds have already been allocated to Punjab Police Housing Corporation for this project.

Technical bids for the project have been opened, and eligible bidders, namely M/s Door Sanchar Systems, Panchkula, and M/s Visual Technologies Pvt. Noida has provided equipment demonstration at traffic light at Sector 66/80. Chief Engineer Ranjodh Singh, Punjab Police Housing Corporation Executive Engineer Jaswinder Singh and RTA Mohali Pradeep Singh Dhillon were present during the demonstration.

If deemed eligible, the financial bids of bidders will be opened next week, with the entire project expected to be completed within six months from the date of allotment. A command and control center will be set up at the Sohana Police Station building located in Sector 79 for effective monitoring and management of the system.
