A senior government official said on Friday that an expert committee formed by the road transport ministry to investigate cases of electric two-wheelers catching fire and recommend corrective measures is expected to submit its report this month.

There have recently been several incidents of Electric Vehicles (EVs) catching fire, resulting in death and severe injuries to people.

The expert group (established on battery standards and certification) is expected to present its findings this month, the official said, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).

Nitin Gadkari, the minister of road transport and roads, has stated that businesses deemed to be irresponsible would be penalised, and a recall of all faulty cars will be issued when the expert panel publishes its findings.

The government initiated an investigation in April after an e-scooter introduced by ride-hailing giant Ola's electric mobility unit caught fire in Pune.

According to the road transport ministry, the Centre for Fire Explosive and Environment Safety (CFEES) was tasked with investigating the conditions that led to the occurrence and recommending corrective steps.
