As the automotive industry moves towards electrification, manufacturers are exploring various solutions to reduce emissions and increase fuel efficiency. Plug-in hybrids are an option, but self-charging strong hybrids and mild hybrids are being seen as immediate alternatives. In this context, the partnership between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota is important, because they are working on hybrid technology. Here are four hybrid cars to expect from these manufacturers in 2024:

New generation Maruti Suzuki Swift and Dezire:


        The all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift is set to debut in India in early 2024. Spy pictures of the car were recently revealed. It was showcased in its hybrid form at the Japan Mobility Show 2023 in Tokyo. India is expected to get Z series engines with mild hybrid technology in place of the K series units. This technology is likely to be expanded to other models in Maruti Suzuki's domestic lineup, leading to better fuel efficiency and overall efficiency. The new generation Swift will come with exterior and interior updates. The new Dezire is also expected to have similar technology and could be launched around mid-2024.

7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara:


        Expected to be launched in late 2024 or 2025, the seven-seater version of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara may receive minor cosmetic updates and new equipment. It is likely to be available with 1.5L mild-hybrid petrol and 1.5L strong hybrid petrol engines, which will be offered with manual and automatic transmission options.

Toyota Fortuner Hybrid:


        Toyota plans to introduce a mild hybrid version of the Hilux pickup in markets such as Australia, before expanding the GD series powertrain to other models, including the full-size SUV Fortuner. This hybrid system is expected to improve fuel efficiency and possibly increase performance. The availability of the technology with the current generation Fortuner or the new model is yet to be confirmed.
