Obtaining a driving licence without going to the RTO? Verify the updated rules.

Drivers of two-wheelers or four-wheelers won't have to go to the Regional Transportation Office (RTO) any longer to get their licences made. The Center has implemented new regulations for obtaining a driving licence were passing a driving test is no longer required, which is a huge relief for the average person.

The requirements for acquiring a driver's licence have been changed by the Union Ministry of Roads and Motorways, and the new requirements became effective on July 1, 2022. The government has given recognised driver training centres the authority to issue DL to qualified candidates after successful completion of training, relieving people of the requirement to attend the RTO and wait in huge lines to get their DL made.

Thus, a driving test is no longer necessary to receive a driver's licence! The state transport authority or the federal government must administer the driver training centres that would be providing the document. These centres will be valid for 5 years, after which they must be renewed.

How will this work?

People who want to earn their driver's licence must enrol in one of these driver's education facilities and pass a test that is given there. A certificate will be awarded once the test has been passed. Following receipt of the certificate, candidates may submit an application for a driving licence, which the RTO will issue based only on the training certificate and without the need for a test.

It should be mentioned that the specialised training facilities will contain driving test lanes and simulators. Both light motor vehicles (LMVs) and medium- and heavy-duty trucks can be trained for (HMVs). LMVs will undergo a total of 29 hours of instruction, which must be finished in just four weeks. Both academic and practical information will be provided by the training centres.
